Orthorexia Nervosa
I saw an article in the news this week talk that introduced me to a new concept, a new mental condition. Orthorexia Nervosa. Apparently it is a mental condition, the sufferers of which obsess of only eating healthy foods and a healthy lifestyle, to the point of causing unintentional self harm.
Being on a diet strikes me as similar, obsessing over 'good' or 'bad foods' to the point of unintentional self harm ... the mental self torture that is the regime of deprivation called a diet.
I take a different view. The diet and weight loss industry, in the main, obsess about what you should and should not eat, for their profit. To the person who has tried, tried and tried again to follow this diet plan or that quick fix regime, this is nonsense. No diet in the world, no fixed plan of 'Can' and 'Can't's', 'Do's' and 'Don'ts' is ever going to work. To the persistent diet failure, the yo yo dieter, you are being conned, ripped off and lied to. The next one will not work any better then all those before. You have my admiration for your persistence, but in the end you are doomed to fail, feel like a failure and be fat again. Give up the diets and turn back to a natural healthy relationship with your food.
Some foods are better for you than others, to deny that in the face of sound medical research is like denying gravity or the Holocaust. One of the things that struck me in my conversations with healthy, happy 'Naturally Thin People' was this. They eat whatever they like with very little regard to a pre (or post) consumption analysis of "is this healthy or not" They simple eat for taste, for gustatory pleasure, for a physical need and hardly ever for an emotional want. The signal to start and the signal to stop eating is overwhelmingly the sensation of a physical hunger and the physical feeling of satisfaction.
They do not eat this way once they are slim, they are slim because they eat this way.
What you eat will never be as important as the reason you eat. Hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure; for many people it is a great way to regain Eating Control, and to take care of what ever drives you to behave as you do. Give me a call and I will give you an honest answer if Hypnotherapy would be good for you. 0208 647 7441
